Course Syllabus
I. Course Description: This is a full semester 5 credit course where the students will learn basic computer graphics, art theory and Photoshop. This course is for students interested in learning to represent their art using technology. Photoshop will be the program used to create images. Lectures, demonstrations and Power Point presentations will be given on each topic. Researching information, planning projects and applying plans shall be a large part of this course. Graphics Deign 1 is designed to help the student become aware of other avenues for artist.
II. Instructional Philosophy: This introductory course is for students interested in computer graphics. Students will explore computer graphics by using current technology to master the techniques of various computer art programs through visual representation. Students will learn to problem solve by making decisions based on in class discussions. Students will also be educated in the history of computer graphics as well as the art terminology. This course will enable students to become more aware of the visual arts and the effects it has on our society. Students will be able to build a basic portfolio with computer graphics that will enable them to compete on a college level. Students will work independently for 95% of the time and a group project will be required.
III. Course Goals:
I. Students will demonstrate the ability to research, plan their work and work their plans. (1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
II. Students will be able to apply principles of art and design such as line, design techniques, color theory and patterns by using a computer graphics programs. (1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
III. Students will develop a personal style. (1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
IV. Students will demonstrate skills by executing exercises and solving the problems of each assignment. (1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
V. Students will demonstrate the ability to use current technology by inputting, editing and outputting images. (1.2, 1.3)
VI. Students will be involved in constructive classroom critiques enabling them to understand their accomplishments and help them to improve deficiencies. (1.4)
